LEGAL UNIT

Introduction
The Legal Unit is a new unit established in January 2011. Nevertheless, this unit is not new in the Segamat District Council as the legal unit was previously placed under the Legal and Enforcement Division. Affective January 2011 it was isolated as a single unit known as the Legal Unit to facilitate and streamline the administration of the Council.

Function

1. To provide legal advisory services and guide to the administration and management of MDS.
2. To formulate, amend and review all laws which have been and will be enforced by MDS.
3. To conduct prosecutiom for Council cases and handle the Council's Civil Cases in court.
4. To draft and review the contracts and agreement letters which will be signed by MDS.
5. To carry out actions on property tax arrears claims either through the Court or by confiscation.

Objective
To carry out and enforce the Acts and By-laws adopted by the Council to create a community who are aware and complies to the laws as well as to ensure that the community benefits from a more comfortable living through legal enforcements.
